Baby Dedication

What you need to know & what you need to do...

An opportunity for new parents to focus today on what will affect their child’s future the most. CONGRATULATIONS on the birth of your new baby! In the midst of all that is changing in your home with the addition of your new baby, we invite you to take a moment to focus on what really matters most.

No one will have more influence on your child than YOU! We believe that what happens at home is more important than what happens at church. It is our hope that we can partner with you from the very beginning. We want to be your biggest fans, your strongest supporters, and your trusted guides as you raise your child to know what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Baby Dedication is more than an event. It is an opportunity for you to take some time at the beginning of your journey as a parent to really think about what will matter the most in the life of your child; to really talk together and decide what you value and what you can do today that will have the greatest impact on your child’s future.

Many people at Centerpoint were christened into the Catholic, Methodist, Episcopalian or Lutheran Church. We thank God their parents cared about their spiritual formation and we want to build on that. We do not want to be disingenuous and say that baby dedication is the same thing as christening however we do not want to build a wall between your denominational heritage and Centerpoint, we want to build on it.  We've noticed that it helps when you tell grandma and grandpa that you are dedicating your child at Centerpoint, you aren't walking away from your religious upbringing, you're living in it, and they should be proud of that.

3 starting points to have your newborn-2 year old child dedicated.

1. Watch these two short videos.

2. Serve: We require at least one parent to serve monthly in an area of our kids ministry. You can read more about this in our CKids page, but the main reason is that God gave you the job or raising your child to know and love Him. Centerpoint wants to partner with you not replace you in that role. Our kids director will contact you about serving when you sign up on the form above.

3. Pray: We require the parents of the baby to write out a prayer that can be read at the baby dedication. We understand how nerve racking it can be to stand in front of people so we can read the prayer for you if you are not comfortable, but it is very special when the parents pray over their child. This is also a great reminder that this is your number #1 job as a parent is to talk to the Lord on your child's behalf and help them to talk to the Lord.  Read 1 Samuel 1 & 2 for a great picture of what baby dedication is.
